85% Data violations are only caused by people, not due to software.

According to a recent report from Verizon, most data breaches do not occur due to software fraud, but rather result from fraudulent communication with officials.

The analysis was based on 655 data incidents and 472 violations in the health sector.

Among the other conclusions drawn from this investigation are:

· Most violations result from interaction with external actors – 61% – and are not due to human error. However, human error may include some episodes of communication with external violators, whether due to negligence or intention of a user within the organization.

· The human factor continues to influence the health sector: 36% two incidents are mere errors in the delivery of information

· 91% of data violations do not involve fraudulent attempts to steal money, 5% of the consequences of “diversity”, 4% of espionage, 1% of all incidents instigated by disgruntled officials

· The data that appear most frequently: in 66% two cases for personal data, in 55% medical records, in 32% login/senhas details and 20% only represented by other types of information
